A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

UnderMorph - Free

UnderMorph is a dark underground survival game currently in pre-alpha development.

You have survived beneath the surface for so long that the outside world has become little more than a distant memory. Explore abandoned mines, tunnels and underground ruins while searching for resources and trying to understand what happened above.

Current features

  • Explore interconnected mines and underground tunnels.
  • Search for food, water, tools and useful materials.
  • Manage your inventory and limited carrying capacity.
  • Craft tools, weapons and survival equipment.
  • Grow mushrooms and prepare food.
  • Face rats, wild dogs, poisonous gas and other underground dangers.
  • Discover notes and fragments of the story.
  • Establish and improve your underground shelter.

Pre-alpha playtest

This is an early development build created for testing and feedback. Some mechanics, interfaces and areas are still unfinished, and bugs may occur.

I would especially appreciate feedback about:

  • Whether the beginning of the game is understandable.
  • Controls and interaction clarity.
  • Inventory and interface usability.
  • Exploration pacing.
  • Difficulty and resource balance.
  • Bugs or situations where you become stuck.

Thank you for playing UnderMorph.

Download & Installation Instructions

Windows

  1. Download the Windows ZIP file.
  2. Extract all files to a normal folder before playing.
  3. Open UnderMorph.exe to start the game.

Do not run the game directly from inside the ZIP file.

Keep UnderMorph.exe and UnderMorph.pck together in the same folder.

Windows may display a security warning because this early development build has not yet been digitally signed. This warning does not mean that malware was detected.

If you downloaded the game from this official itch.io page:

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.

No additional software or installation is required.

macOS

Download the macOS version.

Depending on your browser settings, the ZIP file may be extracted automatically. If you already see the UnderMorph application with the game icon, it is ready to open.

If the downloaded file still ends in .zip, double-click it once to extract the application.

The first time you open the game, macOS may display a warning saying that Apple cannot verify whether the application contains malicious software.

This warning appears because the current development build has not yet been signed and notarized by Apple. It does not mean that macOS detected a virus in the game.

If you downloaded the game from this official itch.io page:

  1. Close the warning.
  2. Find UnderMorph in Finder.
  3. Right-click or Control-click the application.
  4. Select Open.
  5. Click Open again to confirm.

You can also go to:

System Settings → Privacy & Security

Then select Open Anyway next to the message about UnderMorph.

The macOS version appears as a single application icon. Its required files are stored inside the application package, so no separate .pck file is needed.

No additional software or installation is required.

Important

Only bypass operating system security warnings when the game was downloaded from this official itch.io page.

This is a pre-alpha testing build. Bugs, unfinished features, compatibility issues and performance problems may be present.

When reporting a problem, please include your operating system version, computer model, a screenshot of the error and a brief description of what happened.

Cool game :3 would love to see a better cover art tho lol xDD peak tho love it

It's really fun! The storyline works well with the survival mechanics. The beginning seems understandable to me. Simple and effective. Right away I felt like I was in a mine collecting items to survive because some catastrophe happened on the surface.

Controls are easy to use.  You can get specific tasks done pretty quickly without frustration. The controls seem quick and responsive. Easy to navigate the inventory and easy to move around. One thing- it's a bit tricky to get in the right spot to pick stuff up in the mines.

The exploration is good too.  It seems like different areas are blocked off with danger and they change location each game. It ads nice replay variety and you honestly don't know what is going to be in the next mine shaft.

The only thing I needed was more water and maybe more rocks to practice throwing. One time a really fast dog ate me when I  left camp/house. there was no way to fight it because it was so fast. That seemed too difficult.

I didn't see any bugs or get stuck anywhere. It looks and plays like a professional made this. Extra credit for ambient room temperature and what the temperature feels like. There's lots of great little details like that in this game.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I’m really glad you enjoyed the atmosphere, exploration, and survival mechanics.

Water can be collected from the well and purified, or found while exploring. As for the dog, it normally doesn’t run extremely fast, so your character was probably slowed down by thirst or by carrying too much weight in the backpack. Both things reduce your walking, running, and jumping speed. Your comment is very useful, though, because this clearly needs to be communicated better to the player.

You can also craft axes and knives, which are effective against dogs, although you may not have had the necessary materials yet. I’ll also review the amount of water and rocks available, as well as making items in the mines easier to pick up.

The game is still in a very early stage, but I’m gradually improving and expanding everything. Thanks again for playing and taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback!

Not bad so far; it still needs a lot of work, but from the first moment, the presentation is nice.

It takes a bit to get used to things, like where I need to go, how I pick things up due to the weird design, and why or what I took damage from, lol.

The levels and navigation at first are a bit confusing and lack that type of design visual cue. Music-wise, it's good, zen-like, almost.

Animation and gameplay wise its a bit static and doesn't complement the visuals of the levels just yet, since they have more detail but no depth to them.

Best part of the game for me: I like the character design and the Main menu.

With a little more attention to how players will play and what they would expect, this can be a good game; it has good bones, now it just needs to find a personality to iterate on.

Solid 2/5 for the  Windows Alpha version.

Thank you for playing and for the honest feedback! Since you tried the Windows Alpha, I’ve released a new version that addresses many of these issues, especially the initial guidance, item collection, navigation, visual cues, animations, and damage feedback. It also includes several new mechanics and improvements.

The game is still evolving, so comments like yours are very helpful in showing me what needs more attention. Thanks again—I hope you get a chance to try the new version!

¡Muy buen trabajo, ReyMod! Se nota un montón el esfuerzo que le metiste, el juego está súper cuidado y lleno de detalles. Probé la versión Linux y me encantó lo que vi. ¡Seguí así!
